When the glass in your sliding glass door is shattered, cracked, or foggy from a failed seal, you do not need a new door. We measure your panel, custom-order a new dual-pane insulated glass unit (Impact-rated and Low-E available), and swap it into the existing frame in one return visit. This is glass-only — we don't replace the door system or install new windows.
What is glass-only replacement?
Sliding glass door glass-only replacement is the swap of the insulated glass unit (IGU) — the two pieces of tempered glass and the sealed air space between them — inside the existing door panel frame, without replacing the door, the rollers, the lock, or the track. We do not install new window units or new doors — the frame stays.
The glass in a modern sliding glass door is not a single pane — it's an insulated glass unit (IGU), built from two sheets of tempered safety glass separated by a sealed spacer that holds dry air or argon between them. The IGU sits inside an aluminum or vinyl panel frame, held by gaskets and (sometimes) silicone glazing. When the perimeter seal fails — usually after 12-20 years of Florida heat cycling — moisture seeps between the panes, leaving the foggy haze and white mineral deposits homeowners often mistake for permanent damage.
The fix is to replace the IGU only. The panel frame, rollers, lock, and track all stay. We measure your existing glass to the millimeter, custom-order a matching dual-pane unit (Low-E coating, tint, and hurricane-impact lamination all available) from a Florida fabricator, and swap it into your existing panel in a one-visit installation. For shattered glass, we'll board up the opening the same day so your home stays secure while the new IGU is being built. To be clear: this is glass-only — we do not install new sliding doors, new window units, or any other door type.
Symptoms we'll fix
- Glass is cracked or shattered (we'll board it up same-day if needed)
- Foggy or cloudy glass that won't clean off - failed seal between panes
- Visible moisture or water droplets between the two panes
- White haze or mineral deposits inside the glass
- Reduced visibility through the door even after cleaning
- Energy bill spiked because the Low-E coating has degraded with seal failure
- Storm damage or impact crack from debris
How the repair works
- 1
Same-day board-up (if broken)
If your glass is shattered, we'll board up the opening the same day to secure your home until the new IGU arrives.
- 2
Measure the IGU
We measure the exact dimensions, thickness, Low-E coating, and tempering of your existing glass unit.
- 3
Custom-order the glass
Insulated glass units are made-to-order from a regional fabricator. Lead time is typically 7-10 business days.
- 4
Remove and replace
We carefully remove the panel, separate the frame, swap in the new IGU with fresh setting blocks and gaskets, and re-seal.
- 5
Re-install and test
Door goes back on the rollers, we test operation and lock, and clean up every piece of glass.
What drives the scope
Every glass-only replacement quote is flat-rate and written down on site before any work begins — typically a small fraction (around 10–15%) of what replacing the whole door would cost. Here is what shapes the scope of the job.
- Standard 6-foot dual-pane Low-E IGU
- Most common scenario. Clear or lightly tinted.
- 8-foot or extra-wide IGU
- Larger glass and heavier panel handling.
- Hurricane-impact laminated IGU (PGT WinGuard / CGI Sentinel)
- Impact-rated lamination required in coastal hurricane zones.
- Same-day board-up
- If the glass is shattered and you need security tonight.
- Heavily tinted, reflective, or specialty Low-E
- Designer tints and specialty coatings carry a small premium.
- Insurance claim documentation
- We provide itemized invoices, photos, and damage notes at no extra charge.

- Low-E (low-emissivity) coatings
- Hurricane-impact laminated glass (PGT and CGI compatible)
- Fresh perimeter gaskets and setting blocks
- Silicone glazing sealant (Dow 795 or equivalent)
- Plywood and security screws for board-ups
What's included

Troubleshooting your sliding glass door
Use this triage table to identify what's actually going wrong before you call. We diagnose for free on site, but knowing what you're seeing helps us bring the right parts.
| Symptom | Likely cause | DIY check |
|---|---|---|
| Foggy glass that won't clean off | Perimeter seal on the IGU has failed - moisture is now between the panes | Try cleaning both sides. If the haze remains, the moisture is internal and the IGU needs replacement. |
| Glass is cracked but not shattered | Thermal stress or impact damage | Tempered glass usually shatters completely - if it cracked and stayed intact, it may be older annealed glass that should be upgraded to tempered. |
| Visible water droplets between panes | Same as foggy - failed seal, advanced stage | This always means full IGU replacement. The desiccant inside the spacer is saturated. |
| Glass shattered into thousands of small cubes | Tempered glass under stress - thermal, impact, or edge damage | Don't touch it - the edges are razor sharp. Board up first, replace second. |
| Energy bills spiked | Low-E coating degraded with seal failure | Hold a lit lighter near the inside of the glass. If you see 3-4 flame reflections, Low-E is intact. If you see only 2, it's degraded. |
